Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

Yes. Completely free. No subscription, no paywall, no hidden fees. Veterans earned benefits through service — we believe the tools to claim them should be free. We're supported by grants and mission-aligned partnerships, not by charging veterans.

Your information is used only to help build your plan. Some data may be securely stored to improve your experience, but it is never sold or shared. We use anonymous analytics to improve the service. Crisis information is routed to the Veterans Crisis Line and is not associated with your identity. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

No. AfterAction AI is an independent nonprofit. We're not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the Department of Defense. However, we work with the VA system and complement (not replace) official VA resources. Always verify benefits information directly with VA.gov or your local VA office.

AfterAction AI was founded by Mike Jackson, a retired Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with 25 years of service. After years working with transitioning servicemembers, he saw how many veterans missed out on benefits they'd earned. He built this tool to change that. Learn more about us.

Yes. Your documents are encrypted in transit and processed securely. Uploaded documents are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic Claude) for analysis only and are not permanently stored on our servers. We do not retain copies of your DD-214 or other military documents beyond the active session. That said, we recommend redacting sensitive personal information (SSN, account numbers) before uploading any document to any online service.

Our AI matches your service history and profile to a broad range of federal, state, and nonprofit benefits and programs. But no AI system is perfect — and benefits rules change. Always verify recommendations with official sources (VA.gov, state veteran agencies, VSOs). Think of us as a starting point, not a final word. If you believe we've missed a benefit you qualify for, tell us.

Absolutely. We're actively building partnerships with VSOs, nonprofits, federal agencies, and state veteran programs. If your organization helps veterans and you'd like to explore collaboration, get in touch. We can discuss data integration, co-marketing, or joint initiatives.

We're actively recruiting board members with expertise in nonprofit operations, fundraising, technology, or strong ties to the veteran community. If you're interested in joining our leadership, contact us with a brief description of your background and why you want to serve. See current board info.

We're grateful for your support. You can help by: (1) Spreading the word to veterans in your network, (2) Partnering with us if you run a veteran organization, (3) Contributing your expertise on our board or as a volunteer, (4) Providing feedback to improve the platform. Reach out with how you'd like to help.
