Important Disclaimers

Please read these disclaimers carefully before using AfterAction AI.

1. We Are Not the VA

AfterAction AI is NOT the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. We are an independent nonprofit organization. We are not a government agency and do not speak for the VA or Department of Defense.

The official source for all VA benefits, policies, and information is VA.gov. Always verify benefit eligibility and requirements directly with the VA or your local VA medical center.

2. We Are Not a Government Agency

AfterAction AI is a private nonprofit organization. While we work with veteran programs and resources, we do not have the authority to determine benefit eligibility, approve applications, or make official decisions on your behalf.

Only the VA, state agencies, and private companies administering veteran benefits can make official determinations. Our recommendations are for guidance only.

3. We Are Not a Law Firm

AfterAction AI does not provide legal advice. While we may discuss veteran legal rights and resources, we are not qualified to serve as your attorney.

For legal matters involving benefits appeals, discharge upgrades, or other complex veteran legal issues, please consult a qualified attorney who specializes in military or veteran law. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) offer legal assistance programs.

4. We Are Not a Medical Provider

AfterAction AI does not provide medical or mental health advice. If you are experiencing mental health symptoms, depression, suicidal thoughts, or other medical concerns, please reach out to qualified health professionals.

5. Information For Guidance Only

All information provided by AfterAction AI — including benefits recommendations, process guides, and resource listings — is for educational and guidance purposes only. It should not be treated as official determinations or guarantees.

Benefit eligibility varies based on individual circumstances, military service history, discharge status, and agency-specific rules. You are solely responsible for verifying eligibility with the relevant agency.

6. Benefits Information May Change

Federal and state veteran benefits, eligibility requirements, and application processes change regularly. While we make efforts to keep our information current, we may not have the latest updates.

Always verify benefit details with official sources:

  • VA.gov for federal VA benefits
  • Your state's Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs)
  • Nonprofit partners in your area

7. AI-Generated Recommendations Disclaimer

AfterAction AI uses artificial intelligence to generate benefits recommendations and action plans. AI systems, while powerful, can make mistakes. Our recommendations may:

  • Contain inaccuracies or miss relevant benefits
  • Reflect limitations in our training data
  • Require manual verification by official agencies

Always have AI-generated plans reviewed by a human benefits advisor, VSO representative, or official agency before relying on them for decisions.

8. Crisis Support Routing, Not Intervention

If our platform detects signs of crisis, we will provide resources and link you to the Veterans Crisis Line. However, this is not a substitute for immediate professional mental health intervention.

If you are in immediate danger:

  • Call 911 (emergency services)
  • Call 988, Press 1 (Veterans Crisis Line)
  • Go to your nearest emergency room

9. No Guarantee of Benefit Approval

We cannot and do not guarantee that you will be approved for any benefit we recommend. Benefit approval depends entirely on:

  • Your eligibility based on official agency criteria
  • The completeness and accuracy of your application
  • Documentation and verification
  • Agency review and decision processes

Even if we recommend a benefit, the deciding agency may determine you are not eligible.

10. Discharge Status and Eligibility

Many veteran benefits require an honorable discharge or General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions. If you have a discharge characterization other than these (OTH, Bad Conduct, Dishonorable), you may face restrictions on benefits.

For discharge upgrade information or concerns about discharge-related benefits eligibility:

11. Data Security Disclaimer

While we use industry-standard encryption and security measures, no online system is 100% secure. If you have concerns about uploading sensitive documents (DD-214, medical records), consider:

  • Redacting sensitive information (SSN, account numbers) before uploading
  • Working directly with official agencies (VA) or VSOs instead
  • Contacting us for alternative options at hello@afteractionai.org

12. No Relationship with the VA or DoD

AfterAction AI has no formal relationship with, endorsement from, or affiliation with:

  • The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • The Department of Defense
  • The Veterans Health Administration
  • Any government agency

While we partner with veteran nonprofits and complement government services, we are a completely independent organization.

13. We Built This to Help, Not Replace

AfterAction AI is designed to supplement — not replace — the services of:

  • The VA and VA medical centers
  • Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs)
  • Military legal counsel and veteran attorneys
  • Mental health professionals and counselors
  • Government benefits administrators

These professionals have expertise, authority, and resources that we do not. When in doubt, ask them.

14. Your Responsibility

You are responsible for:

  • Verifying all benefit information with official sources
  • Providing accurate military service information
  • Following official agency guidelines for applications
  • Seeking professional help when needed (legal, medical, mental health)
  • Understanding that approval is never guaranteed
